What is Sagas of Sohyu?

Scheming nobles vie for wealth, power, and the Empress’ attention. The temples of the Seven Sisters ring out with song and worship, while cults of the Bony Lady chant forbidden rituals by the light of the two moons. Smoke rises from the textile mills in the imperial seat of New Katerinburg, while thieves chase each other along the rooftops. The denizens of Dwarfhome lounge in their jungle plantations and gamble away their wealth in glittering mountain halls. Art, theatre, and culture thrive in the capitol of Galria, while mages at its Academy of Magic delve deep into arcane mysteries. Amidst the waves to the west lies the Fangs, an archipelago home to the draconic races; far to the East lies the uncharted territory of Kunafa. But, throughout the Argealan Empire, a dark plot is secretly brewing, and an unlikely group of adventurers has been caught in the middle...This is Sohyu.

When/Where Can I Watch Sagas of Sohyu?

Sagas of Sohyu is a 5e D&D stream, LIVE biweekly(ish) on Fridays at 7PM CST on Twitch! All VODs are saved to the channel in an easy-to-watch playlist and will be uploaded to the YouTube channel so you can catch up (or rewatch) at any time, or get your friends to join in on the adventure too! Keep an eye on our Twitter for announcements of upcoming episodes.

Episode 7 (previously scheduled for 2/28) was postponed while Jason (Redwell)'s family welcomed a new baby boy and adjusted to becoming an adventuring party of 4...and then COVID-19 happened. With Sohyu being an in-person game and many of our households having at-risk persons, we have decided to postpone indefinitely until it is safe to gather again.

We can't wait to return, and will update you guys about rescheduling as soon as we know more! Thanks for understanding!

LAST EPISODE: FEBRUARY 7

Who is Sagas of Sohyu?

The Sagas of Sohyu cast is made up of 7 friends who have been playing D&D together in the same basement for the last 3+ years. We play just like we normally would, throwing back beers and eating pizza and making silly jokes...but now there's a bunch of cameras, and we're bringing YOU along for the ride!

Check out this clip to get a brief glimpse of our characters through the eyes of a well-loved NPC, Crown Prince Alberic D'Chatillay of Galria. >>>

THE DUNGEON MASTER:

Sean is our illustrious Dungeon Master, and the mastermind behind the homebrew setting of Sohyu. He gives us lots of super cool handouts, keeps us relatively on task, and is basically the best.

You can find him on Twitter at @2d8mypizza.

MORGANA:

Morgana LeFevre is a former courtesan and assassin (College of Swords Bard) on the run from the man who raised her - and sold her out - a notorious Galrian crimelord known as The Owl. As beautiful and glamourous as she is dark and mysterious, Morgana can identify the inner desires of many...and how to manipulate them to her advantage. Her silver tongue and shrewd mind is as much a weapon as the warfans and magic she wields, but her sharpness often masks a confused and shattered heart. She's finally gotten the freedom she always wanted...but now she has to figure out how to live with it - and the cost.

Morgana is played by Jessica (aka PastelSpell). You can find her on Twitter at @PastelSpellTV.

ANCHORÉTTE:

Anchorétte Lightbringer is a sheltered young aasimar acolyte (Light Domain Cleric) from the Lighthouse of Cybelle in Shoreditch, a coastal city in Galria. Raised to believe she was the chosen one of her goddess, Anchorétte was kept locked away for much of her youth, preparing to one day lead her faith...until she spoke out against alarming new practices in the Cybellian temples and found herself imprisoned for it. Having fled the city of Shoreditch, Anchorétte is new to the ways of the world, kind and trusting and often filled with wonder, but she does not hesitate to speak out against tyranny and corruption, cleansing the world with light and fire.

Anchorétte is played by Cheyanne. You can find her on Twitter at @Clove_Latte.

EVI'ANAR'ALA'TUONA:

Evi'anar'ala'tuona (Evi) is an eladrin hailing from the mysterious region to the east known as Kunafa. An avid fighter and swordswoman (Kensei Monk), Evi left home to find adventure and hone her martial skills against new and dangerous opponents. Evi's thick accent, unusual garments, and ever-changing colors clearly mark her as an outsider and she is often bewildered by Imperial culture and food and law and...well, everything. She's finally received a certificate marking her as a bounty hunter, and is thrilled to finally be able to fight people without getting arrested.

Evi is played by Taylor. You can find him on Twitter at @LordTaytertot.

GANJ:

Ganj is a curious little kobold dirtfarmer turned messenger of the divine (Order Domain Cleric). After finding a holy gavel buried in their tunnels, Ganj became a servant of Zalmoxis, Queen of Heaven and the Goddess of Law and Righteousness. A more unlikely candidate to champion Zalmoxis would be difficult to find, but Ganj serves with deep devotion and fervor, spreading her word wherever they go. This did not make them many friends in their home territory of The Fangs (who almost singularly worship the goddess Mari)...but Ganj did make one friend - a dragonborn named Tycus. The two became 'The Scales of Justice' and left The Fangs to spread the word of their Heavenly Queen and stamp out evil wherever they might find it.

Ganj is played by Myles. You can find him on Twitter at @CarlosRathcock.

TYCUS:

Tycus is a dragonborn warrior of noble birth, with extensive military experience and a mysterious past (Oath of Vengeance Paladin). Stoic and practical, Tycus is a man of few words who prefers action to talk (and can deal a frightening amount of damage with his greataxe when needed). He often takes on a watchful, fatherly role, trying to keep Ganj and the rest of the party out of trouble when he can. His gruffness can sometimes hide his kind heart - Tycus will often go out of his way to assist those in need, even at risk to his own well-being, and he has strongly held convictions about doing what is right and just.

Tycus is played by Chase.

REDWELL:

Redwell Spinebreaker is a half-orc mercenary from the wild and lawless Eastern Edge. Redwell isn't all brute strength though - while he is a seasoned veteran, he's also a student of the arcane arts (Eldritch Knight Fighter), and a proven commander who successfully lead his small company through many minor conflicts. He thoroughly enjoys a night at the tavern, and is often coarse and boisterous...but he also enjoys books (and can sometimes be seen sporting adorable reading glasses), and cooking. Redwell's family is large, and he often writes home to his parents and many siblings.

Redwell is played by Jason, who is also our host and production assistant.

I have more questions!

Congrats, you rolled a successful knowledge check! Here's a few more frequently asked questions about Sagas of Sohyu!

1) "I've never played D&D. Will I be confused?"

At times, maybe. But if you enjoy a good story, that's really all you need to follow along! The dice and rules and number crunching are only involved to help us tell the story...So don't worry if you aren't a D&D expert!

2) "I didn't start at Episode 1 - will I know what's going on?"

All of our VODs are available on YouTube, and I highly recommend watching them before joining us live if you really want a full grasp of the story. However, our wonderful DM Sean always does a recap of our last episode at the start of stream, so if you only missed one or two episodes you could definitely get by. If you really don't want to invest the time in getting caught up (it's a lot, I get it!) you could also jump in this way and at least have a basic understanding of recent events (if not the whole plot). But catching up on the VODs first is definitely the best way to get started mid-series, if you can!

3) "Can I watch this with my children/as a minor?"

The stream will be marked as mature content. There will be violence and some adult themes, and there is usually swearing and/or adult humor. We will also be casually consuming alcohol as we play. Parental Caution is advised.

4) "Is there Sagas of Sohyu merch?"

There is! You can find it here
